The WD20PURX is an earlier generation of the WD Purple series: same capacity, same 64 MB cache, and same 180 TB/year workload, with a sustained transfer rate of 145 MB/s. The WD23PURZ is the newer version of the same, with a sustained speed of 175 MB/s. For recording — where write speed remains well below the disk's capability — the two perform practically identically, making the WD20PURX the more affordable choice.
